Exam Schedule is Altered for Seniors

As the year comes to a close, we get ready to start exams, and for seniors they’re looking forward to graduation. This year’s exam schedule causes some issues for seniors requiring them to take some exams early.

“I’m not worried about having to take them early,” said senior Meredith Bunting. “I’m just excited to graduate and be done.”

The point of having exams early is to ensure that all seniors get their scores in enough time, in order to graduate. Instead of the exams being in the morning like usual, they’re in the afternoon.

“It’s a little annoying that I have to take a math exam in the afternoon,” said senior DJ Miller. “I don’t think it being in the afternoon will affect my ability to do well and pass my final exam.”

Most seniors are looking forward to graduation and moving forward with their life. For some seniors, these exams can be the difference between them passing and failing. It’s a scary thought for some, but most have worked hard and have little to worry about.

“I have heard stories of students getting pulled out of line at graduation,” Bunting said. “It would be so upsetting to get that close and just not get to anymore.”

There isn’t much of an issue with holding a couple exams earlier for seniors. By the time of the exam they are still going to be just as prepared as everyone else.

“I know my teacher will prepare me to do my best on the exam,” Miller said. “She has already told us her plan to make sure we’re ready,”

Teachers are prepping as fast and as efficiently as they can. They aren’t being given the full amount of time as they usually would, but they are making it work. The teachers want to see their students exceed and graduate.

“It could affect their effectiveness to pass without having the same amount of time to review as my other classes,” English teacher Danielle Hill said. “My fourth period only has one day to review where most classes have three days.”

This new exam schedule contains benefits, but also some issues. Having all the hurricanes and snow days is what led the county to need to do this. It’s a weird schedule, but they know that they can’t move graduation, and once students have graduated, they don’t have to come back.

“I’m excited to graduate, but I am going to miss all my friends that I’m leaving behind,” Bunting said.
