The Reagan men’s tennis team is well on their way towards a conference title with an impressive nine match winning streak. The team has come together and grown with an abundance of new players this year. With only six returning players and eight new members, the team shoots to assist the new players in learning the game and helping them to learn to enjoy every part of it.

The team’s goal for the season is to finish at the top of the Central Piedmont Conference; for individual players, it is to win an individual or doubles conference title. The returning players want to do all they can to aid the newer players in achieving success.

“Personally I want to be able to help some of the newer players on the team to be able to understand and appreciate the game more,” junior Ethan Evans said.

It is important to grow together as a team, but also as individuals in a sport like tennis, since most of the time, players compete as singles or with one other teammate in doubles matches. Even when the players are playing alone, the rest of the team is always very encouraging.

“We have all grown very close, the team is like a family,” junior Nick Rieker said. “We get along very cohesively and that makes our doubles matches go much smoother. Even when we are losing during a match we keep our moral high and attack every point as it’s a new one in order to win the match.”

The team is coming together to successfully achieve their goals in the conference tournament coming up at the end of this April.

“We have just a little time until conference tournament, but the team is working hard and pushing each other’s limits every day at practices to help achieve the goal of a conference title,” coach Scott Larson said. “They encourage their best during matches which helps them play to their best abilities.”

Currently in conference, the Raiders have a record of 5-3 which sets them in 3rd place for conference. The team is right on track to achieve their season goals with their strong sets in doubles and encouraging team ethics.
