Garlic Butter Rolls
February 9, 2022
As the new year begins, many people look for new hobbies. Baking is an easy hobby that anyone can do. When I was younger, baking cookies for Santa was the extent of my culinary abilities. However, as the years went on, baking is a skill I’ve developed. From making cakes to making scones, I’ve tried my fair share of new recipes. This recipe is good for beginners because there is not an extensive list of ingredients, and these garlic butter rolls only take an hour to make.
These rolls can vary in size. When dividing the dough, I recommend rolling each piece into a ball that is about palm-sized. This leaves enough room for the cheese to melt inside the dough. It is important to note that these rolls can be made without the cheese filling; simply roll the dough into balls and bake as is.
This recipe can be customized based on toppings. A garlic butter spread can be brushed on top, or adding everything bagel seasoning is an easy but delicious way to finish off these rolls. Another note: these rolls are made on a regular sheet pan, either greased or with a parchment paper base. They can be kept in an airtight container for three to four days.
Tips for each version
If making Everything Bagel Rolls:
- Spread egg wash on top of dough.
- Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top before baking at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
If making Garlic Butter Rolls:
- Spread the egg wash on top of the dough before baking, bake for the same time and temperature.
- After baking, brush the garlic butter mixture on top.

Garlic Butter:
- 5 tbsp melted unsalted butter
- ½ tbsp dried parsley
- ½ tbsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
Everything Bagel:
- Everything bagel seasoning
Directions–
- Add yeast, sugar, 2 cups flour and water, whisk.
- Let mixture rest for 10 minutes, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap.
- Add remaining 3 cups of flour, olive oil and salt. *Add salt last* mix until the mixture is sticking to itself, almost forming a dough.
- Add mixture to a floured surface, knead dough for 10 minutes.
- Divide dough into about 16 balls.
- Compress each roll until almost flat, add cheese into the middle of each dough ball, pinch dough around the cheese to close.
- Add egg wash on top of each roll,
- (If making the everything bagel seasoning version) sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top of each roll.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. After 8 minutes, turn the tray so that the front rolls are near the oven light. (Otherwise one half of the rolls will be more golden brown than the other.)
