Welcoming Hannah Brown as the newest Bachelorette
May 30, 2019
It wasn’t that long ago that Hannah Brown was a contestant on ABC’s “The Bachelor” competing for Colton Underwood’s heart. Fortunately for her, it was her blindside of an exit that landed her the spot as America’s new bachelorette.
Brown ,24, was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She later went on to college at the University of Alabama. Brown started her pageantry career at the age of 15, competing in local competitions, and then later going on to advance to state competitions. In 2018, Brown was crowned Miss Alabama, representing West Alabama. She was given the opportunity to represent Alabama in the Miss USA 2018 competition. While at Miss USA, Brown used her platform to raise awareness for mental health, as she had previously suffered from anxiety and depression which caused her to leave pageantry for several years.
On Monday, May 15 Brown made her official debut as the 15 Bachelorette, and she did not disappoint viewers. Known for her southern charm and growling like a “beast”, the former Miss Alabama took her spot to meet 30 eligible men, fighting for her love and eventually a proposal. Brown made it to the top seven on the previous season of the bachelor. She is the first bachelorette that was not in the final four.
Unlike most of the previous premieres, Brown’s first rose ceremony was a very exciting one. It had two pilots, a box king, and a social media driven cheating scandal, sending one-man home early in the night.
Brown was very open with the contestants, opening up about her past struggle with self-image. In her opening toast to the group, she asked them to be honest with her and she would be honest with them in return.
Brown gave the most important rose of the night to contestant Luke Parker, an entrepreneur and gym- maniac. Parker was the first one to steal her away to talk to her. After sending the first man home earlier than she would have liked, Brown was in tears and Parker was the only one to go and console her. This was the move that landed him the first impression rose and a kiss.
Overall, Brown is known for her awkwardness and realness, and during her season premiere she showed the real side of herself and did not disappoint bachelor nation. The teasers promise it’s going to be “the most dramatic season yet.”
