Men’s lacrosse continues to train

May 4, 2017

As the end of the season approaches, the men’s lacrosse team is continuing to condition and prepare for their final games. This season, varsity has played 14 games and won 10, while JV has played 10 games and won four. In their last regular season game against rival West Forsyth, varsity pulled out a big 11-3 win and JV lost.

Although the season is nearing its end, there is still much to be accomplished by the men’s lacrosse teams. The teams have finished their regular season and varsity is now heading into playoffs.

Both the JV and varsity teams are packed with good players. This year, freshmen Reed Head and Gabriel Hollingsworth made the varsity team and have been contributing greatly.

It is difficult for a freshman to have enough skill level to be able to compete on the varsity level. Although it may seem intimidating, Head and Hollingsworth have helped out the team a lot.

“It can be intimidating being the youngest person on the team and going up against older kids, but once you are on the field, all that changes,” Head said.

Although there were a lot of great things about this season, there were also challenges. No sports team has their best day every day.

“One of the challenges that we’ve had this season has been having a young team,” said sophomore Bryson Ligon. “We have overcome that challenge by working and playing together.”

Despite these challenges, men’s lacrosse has found ways to overcome them and continue to succeed. Working together, as in all sports, is a key component to winning.

Often times it can seem challenging to work together as a cohesive team when there are players of all different ages and skill level. However, men’s lacrosse is making a point to strive to work together.

The team has learned to adapt to one another’s differences in skills and has used that to work hard and achieve their goals. Winning doesn’t come easy, but with teamwork and determination, it is entirely possible.

“We have had a really fun season,” said junior Stevie Thompson. “We won a lot and overall did pretty well. I’m looking forward to playing next year.”
