Super Bowl Commercial Rankings
February 9, 2018
It’s that time of year again: the Super Bowl. Along with the Super Bowl comes the plethora of hilarious commercials.
For those who don’t know, Super Bowl commercials are known to be outrageously funny and/or crazily weird. For example, two years ago, Mountain Dew Kickstart launched their infamous “Puppy Monkey Baby” commercial that got a lot of attention for its outrageousness.
In past years, the more famous brands that promote their commercials are Budweiser, T-Mobile, Skittles, Turbotax, and Doritos.
Brands that did not promote an ad this year includes Google, Go Daddy, YouTube, Buick, Clorox, and Snickers.
Teasers for the 2018 commercials come out weeks before the Super Bowl, and many awaited the collaboration between Mountain Dew and Doritos. The anticipation for the commercial was very high because of the Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage appearances.
Many commercials featured celebrities like Chris Pratt for Michelob Ultra, Cardi B and Rebel Wilson for Amazon’s Alexa, and Steven Tyler for Kia.
Also during commercial breaks were many new movie and tv show trailers. They included the new Star Wars franchise, “Solo,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” and an NBC show, “Rise.”
While many ads appealed to the comedic aspect of Super Bowl commercials, others like Hyundai and Ram took a more serious approach. Their ads focused more on community service and helping disaster relief efforts.
This year, Budweiser didn’t air the traditional Clydesdale commercial. The business usually runs an ad featuring their famous horses. Instead, Budweiser went for a more serious approach with their ad about disaster relief for Texas and other communities devastated by drought and natural disasters.
This year, the commercials for the Super Bowl had a balance of hilarious and emotional ads that people look forward to every year.
So, which commercial was best? Here are the top 10 commercials during the Super Bowl:
- The “Dirty Dancing” NFL commercial featuring Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. The best part was that the two football players perfectly performed the famous dance from the film.
- E- Trade’s “This is getting old.” Not only does this commercial feature elderly people doing difficult tasks, but they also sing about it!
- Kia featuring Steven Tyler. It totally encompasses the “Forever Young” feeling with the soundtrack of “Dream On,” one of Tyler’s more famous songs.
- Budweiser’s “Stand by You.” Instead of the traditional Clydesdale horses, Budweiser put emphasis on participating in relief efforts.
- “Bleep Don’t Stink” by Febreze. This hilarious commercial is the typical Super Bowl commercial that will be remembered for a while.
- Avocados from Mexico and their bio-Dome theme. Also an example of the traditional Super Bowl commercial, this ad is about a community of people in a bio-dome that forget chips for their guacamole outside the dome.
- Doritos and Mountain Dew- Blaze and Ice. This humorous ad features Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage rapping tongue-twisting rhymes.
- M&Ms- this ad includes the red M&M turning into Danny DeVito and then asking people, “Do you want to eat me?”
- Tide – “It’s A Tide Ad.” This ad features David Harbour, best known for his role in “Stranger Things,” basically just saying that yes, this is a Tide ad.
- Toyota and its inspiring message, encouraging young people to not let challenges keep you from following your dreams. With the upcoming Olympics, Toyota airs its paralympic ad that shows the support system and journey of an athlete.
